About Sigma Phi Epsilon

Sigma Phi Epsilon was founded at Richmond College, now the University of Richmond, on November 1, 1901, on the Cardinal Principles: Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love. Today, the Fraternity has grown to more than 262,000 lifetime members, including 13,500 undergraduates on 260 campuses in the United States. SigEp is currently the largest fraternity in terms of undergraduate enrollment.

Our mission statement is “Building Balanced Leaders for the World’s Communities.”

Iowa Theta Chapter

SigEp prides itself on being different because that difference has helped us come to lead the fraternity world. Sigma Phi Epsilon at UNI is no different. SigEps refuse to be stereotyped as "frat boys”. Sigma Phi Epsilon is dedicated to the idea that a fraternity is much more than a social organization -- it is an institution of higher learning; one that centers around the ideals of allowing one to live his best life.

Sigma Phi Epsilon stands apart from other UNI Greek organizations. The Iowa Theta Chapter has routinely won awards for Philanthropy & Community Service, Academic Excellence, Membership Development Programs, Chapter Programming, Leadership, and recently won the Fraternity of the Year award.

The Sigma Phi Epsilon Chapter at UNI is not a pledging chapter. Because of our Balanced Man ideal, we believe that upon admittance, a new member has the same responsibility and impact upon the fraternity as a full brother. Therefore, a new member has full voting rights and is eligible and encouraged to run for leadership positions within the fraternity.
